The Lake DistrictThe Lake District

No motorcycling holiday to the North of England would be complete without experiencing the Lake District with its unique landscape and stunning, if sometimes challenging motorcycling routes. From the fast and furious Kirkstone Pass to the quieter, less well known but equally stunning Honister Pass, the Lake District has something for every motorcyclist whether you want to enjoy the lively towns of Ambleside and Bowness or prefer the less populated north and east.

The Butter Tubs Pass, Yorkshire DalesThe Yorkshire Dales

Enjoy the unique unspoilt landscape on fabulous biking roads including the ‘Buttertubs Pass’ and highest pub in England, ‘Tan Hill’, a favoured destination for the motorcyclist. The Dales offers breathtaking scenery and countless places to stop and enjoy the area and the hospitality, with numerous small market towns from Ripon to Hawes and further a field to Kirby Lonsdale. For those with the time and desire to ride more miles a trip to the Trough of Bowland and the village of Dunsop Bridge, the centre of the UK, is well worth the effort for the stunning views and great biking roads it offers.

Hutton le Hole, North Yorkshire MoorsThe North Yorkshire Moors

Whilst less well explored and often ignored the North Yorkshire Moors offers rolling hills and fantastic motorcycling routes including the circular route from Helmsley via Hutton Le Hole and Stokesley, known locally as the ‘Yorkshire TT’. Whitby and Scarborough should also not be missed on any trip and are both popular motorcyclist ‘stop off’ points.

Strangford Narrows ferry, Strangford Loch Northern IrelandNorthern Ireland

An area of the UK often overlooked by the touring motorcyclist Northern Ireland offers a diverse yet stunning biking destination from the little known but spectacular Mourne Mountains in the South to the dramatic Antrim coast line from Larne to Portrush taking in the Giants Causeway and pretty town of Ballycastle along the way.

West Coast of Scotland

Kyles of ButeBute and Cowal Peninsula

The Island of Bute and the Cowal Peninsula are only a stone’s throw from Glasgow but offer some of the least known but exhilarating motorcycling in the whole of Scotland. The spectacular roads around ‘Rest and Be Thankful’ near Arrochar and Colintraive offer both long winding runs as well as incredible views to the Arrochar forest and the Kyles of Bute respectively. Whilst sparsely populated there are numerous places to stop offering fantastic accommodation and food, whatever your taste.

This area offers immense flexibility and can be incorporated into a 5 day tour along with the north of England, as part of your Scottish trip or even as a holiday in its own right. A tour of this area might include some of the magnificent roads and scenery this area has to offer, including the Mull of Kintyre and West Coast south of Oban.

ArranArran

Beautiful Arran is little known and often missed by the touring biker. Not without reason it is called ‘Scotland in miniature’ as it has everything Scotland has to offer, if on a slightly smaller scale. The 55 mile circular tour of the island is one of the best in Scotland taking in Holy Isle and views of the Mull of Kintyre along the way. There are numerous places to stop and enjoy the scenery with fantastic hospitality from Lochranza to Brodick.

IslayIslay

The Isle of Islay and neighbouring Jura offer a real adventure to the touring biker. Travelling from Kennacraig near Tarbert in Argyll and Bute, the fantastic ride from Inveraray to Kennacraig then turns into a stunning adventure by sea. Winding roads and dramatic scenery must be experiencing to be appreciated and no trip would be complete without the thrilling sea crossing to Jura.

MullMull

Not a common biking destination but Mull offers a wild and stunning experience, particularly for those with a preference for more rugged terrain. The route from Tobermory to Dervaig is a spectacular ride not only in terms of the winding, single-track road but the fantastic views of the island it provides. The circular trip of the island covers c110 miles and will take all day on single-track roads but is well worth it if you’re looking for a change in pace as well as some spectacular scenery.

Elgol, SkyeIsle of Skye

A well known biking destination with it’s spectacular roads and scenery including the circular trip from the Uig Peninsula via the Old Man of Storr. Less well known but also a ‘must’ is the run down to Elgol with its sweeping roads and views. Skye can also be used as a perfect base for exploring the Outer Hebrides via the Uig Ferry and absolutely stunning but challenging Applecross Pass.
